Matthew 1

And away we go!

Matthew 1:  The first part of this chapter is the account of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah.  This part is usually quickly passed over.  However, there were a couple things that made me think.  The first was verse 2 that states that Abraham was the father of Isaac.  I think about the fact that still to this day in the middle east the decendents of Isaac and Ishmael are in conflict.  Read Genesis 16 for more about Ishmael and the prophecy concerning him.  The second thing about this first part is the oddity of there being 3 sets of 14 generations from Abraham to Jesus, why?

The second part of the chapter has been on the front burner with Christmas being last week.  However, the thing that I considered like the first time was Joseph’s role in the birth of the Messiah.  He had made up his mind to put Mary away quietly but changed his mind when visited in his dreams by the angel of the Lord.  (Some dream that must have been!)  Still, Joesph being a righteous man followed the Lords desire.

Does the Spirit of God use dreams and other means to guide us today?  It sometimes seems like he does.

Have a great day,
Doug.
