Matthew 24

Matthew 24, this chapter starts off with Jesus predicting the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem.  He also warns to beware of false prophets and false messiahs.  The chapter ends with a warning to be prepared for Christ return, which is known only to God.

Matthew 24:44 “For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.  (NAS95)

How many times have we read this verse?  I don’t think we take it very seriously.  We intellectually know this to be true that the Lord will return as a thief in the night, but, I don’t think we wake up thinking that “today could be the day the Lord returns.”  How would this change our walk of faith if we lived each day as though today could be the day that we will meet Jesus in the sky?

Another way to look at this is when you die, the Lord has returned for you.  Or better stated when you die your status for eternity is set and you will await the return as you are.  We don’t even live as though we could die today.  I’m only 40, I have got great genetics and should live till my 80’s or better.  I will start thinking that my life could end in about 30 more years or so.

All this thinking about dieing could seem a bit morbid, but when you understand and accept God’s grace and you can approach the cross with confidence in your salvation.  This makes the transition not seem so bad, knowing the joy that awaits on the other side.

Have a great day,

Doug.
