John 8

John 8, Jesus spends the entire chapter in the temple trying to convince the Jews that he is the Messiah.  This chapter also contains the story of the woman who was caught committing adultery and Jesus said “whoever is with out sin, let him cast the first stone.”

Chapter 8 continues a theme of Jesus letting them know that he knows that they are seeking to kill him and/or arrest him, however it wasn’t happening yet because “his time had not yet come.”  John 8:20 He spoke these words while he was teaching in the treasury of the temple, but no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.  (NRSV)  This same thing was repeated twice in chapter 7.

This chapter also has discussions about Abraham being the “father” of the Jews.  They obviously place great importance on this linage.  I think this still exist today.  I wonder what percentage of Christians today continues in the denomination that their parents attended.

Have a great day,
Doug.
